Getting Started

How do I create an account?
You can create an account by clicking "Sign up" on the login page. You can either:
  • Register with your email and create a password
  • Sign in with your Google account for faster registration
After signing up, you'll need to verify your email address before you can log in.
How do I complete my profile?
Go to your Profile page from the menu. You can add:
  • Profile photos (upload multiple photos and set them as Public or Private)
  • Display name, birthdate, and physical characteristics
  • Preferences and what you're looking for
  • Location (optional, but helps find nearby users)

Privacy & Safety

Who can see my profile photos?
You have full control over your photo visibility:
  • Public photos: Visible to all ManMatcher users
  • Private photos: Only you can see them (useful for storing photos you're not ready to share)
  • Google photos: Photos from your Google account default to private - you must check "Public" to make them visible
You can change photo privacy settings anytime from your Profile page.
How does location sharing work?
Location sharing is optional. When you allow location access:
  • Your approximate location helps find nearby users
  • Other users can see how far away you are (e.g., "2.3 km away")
  • Your exact location is never shared - only distance
You can deny location permission anytime in your browser settings. If denied, you'll still see all users but without distance information.
What is the "I Like!" button?
When viewing someone's profile, you can press "I Like!" to save them as a favorite. When you like someone:
  • A green checkmark appears next to their username
  • You can easily find them later in your favorites
  • The other person is NOT notified
Press "I Like!" again to unfavorite them.
How do I block someone?
Go to Messages, find the conversation with that user, and click "Block". When you block someone:
  • They can't send you messages
  • Their profile won't appear in your feed
  • Your profile won't appear in their feed
You can unblock users anytime from the "Blocked Users" page.

Messaging

How do I send a message?
Click on any user's profile card to view their full profile, then click the "Message" button. Type your message and press "Send".

You'll see your messages on the right side (green) and their messages on the left side (blue) in a chat-style interface.
Will I get notified of new messages?
Yes! You'll receive push notifications for new messages if:
  • You've enabled notifications (we'll ask permission)
  • You're offline or haven't been active for 5+ minutes
You'll also see a blue badge with the message count next to your username in the header.
How do I archive or delete conversations?
From the Messages page, each conversation has options:
  • Archive: Removes from main list but keeps messages (view in "Archived Messages")
  • Delete: Permanently deletes the entire conversation (requires confirmation)

Status & Presence

What do the colored dots mean?
The colored dot next to usernames shows their current status:
  • 🟢 Green: Online (active within last 2 minutes)
  • 🟡 Yellow: Away (last active 2-10 minutes ago)
  • Gray: Offline (last active 10+ minutes ago)
How do I change my status?
Go to your Profile page and use the Status dropdown in the top right:
  • 🟢 Online: Shows your actual activity status
  • 🟡 Appear Away: Always shows yellow dot (even if you're active)
  • 🔴 Appear Offline: Hides you from the main user feed
On mobile, the status selector appears to the left of the menu button.

Technical Issues

Why am I not seeing any users?
This could happen if:
  • You're set to "Appear Offline" status - change it to "Online" in your Profile
  • You've blocked all users - check your Blocked Users page
  • No other users are currently online in your area
Why aren't notifications working?
Check these settings:
  • Make sure you clicked "Enable" when prompted for notifications
  • Check your browser settings: Site Settings → Notifications → Allow
  • On iOS Safari, add ManMatcher to your home screen for push notifications to work
The site keeps asking for location/notifications - why?
We've updated the site to remember your choices:
  • Notifications: If you click "Later", we won't ask again for 7 days
  • Location: If you deny, we won't ask again for 30 days
You can always enable them later in your browser settings.

Account & Privacy

How do I delete my account?
To delete your account, please contact us at admin@manmatcher.com and we'll process your request within 24 hours.
Where is my data stored?
ManMatcher is operated from Canada with servers located in the United States for optimal performance. Your data is protected by Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA). We never share your information with third parties. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
